Who We Are

Our Beginnings

Inaugurated in 1990 and incorporated under the Societies Act of Nova Scotia in 1991, Sri Lanka Canada Association of Atlantic Region (SLCAAR) is the premier sociocultural organization of the Sri Lankan-Canadian community in Atlantic Canada. SLCAAR is the first formally constituted broad-based Sri Lankan-Canadian organization in the Region whose membership is open for all individuals of Sri Lankan origin, their families and friends in the region irrespective of their ethnic, racial, linguistic, religious and cultural affiliations.

The Journey Ahead

As an organization strongly committed to the promotion of multiculturalism, SLCAAR has actively enriched the sociocultural life of the Sri Lankan Canadian community and the broader multicultural community in the region through annual series of its socio-cultural celebrations (such as Sri Lankan New Year Celebrations, Christmas Celebrations, and Vesak Celebrations), special events (such as musical, dance and other cultural performances featuring leading artists from Sri Lanka and other parts of Canada) and participation in larger cultural celebrations (such as Multicultural Festival of Nova Scotia) representing the Sri Lankan-Canadian community and showcasing its cultural heritage. With an excellent record of accomplishments over more than a quarter-century, SLCAAR continues to function as the leading Sri Lankan Canadian organization, vibrantly becoming the face of Sri Lankan Canadian community in the multicultural life of the region.
